Itinerary:
If needed, we will meet you and pick you up at the Gunnison Airport in the afternoon or evening of July 26th. From the airport, we will head out to our first fishing and camping destination outside of Lake City, CO. From there we will fish and camp in the areas surrounding the Rio Grande River. Some days we will camp in the same location for two nights, giving ourselves a chance to relax a little, but there will be a lot of moving.
Our last day of fishing will be Friday, July 31st. We’ll wake up early on the morning of the 10th and get people to the airport if needed!
We will provide the exact itinerary to those who book the trip.
What you should know:
Activity: For this particular trip there will be some hiking involved but no more than one or two miles for about two of the days. The remaining three days will include minimal hiking. That said, some of the creeks and rivers we will be accessing involve steep descents down embankments with no trails. You should be in good physical condition with hiking experience to join this trip.
*Camping: We will provide certain camping amenities such as a portable fridge/freezer to share, a portable heated outdoor shower, a two-burner propane stove and cookware, propane, a pocket stove for boiling water, first-aid kits, and an axe and saw for firewood. You are expected to bring all other camping gear including a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, camp chair, headlamp, etc.
Food: Food is not provided but we will make a couple stops at the grocery store!
Fishing expectations: We will target three trout species commonly found in Colorado: brown trout, rainbow trout, and native cutthroat trout. We might get lucky and run into a couple brook trout as well. The main focus will be a couple of creeks/rivers that are essentially pristine slot canyons. No lakes on the itinerary but we might fish one. You will absolutely catch fish!!
Transportation: We will do the driving! One or two of our locations involve rugged off-roading on 4×4 trails. It’s not suggested that you drive your own vehicle unless you have a proper off-roader with high clearance.
Payments/Cancellations: All of your initial deposit (18% percent of total price +tax)(~$300) is non-refundable. Full payment must be made by June 1st, 2025. Any cancellations within 60 days of the trip will not receive their payment back as it is very difficult to fill the space on that short of notice. If we are able to fill your spot, we will provide you with a full refund, minus the initial deposit. If an emergency arises we will do our very best to work with you as we understand things can happen.
